The government has announced that this year will be the first year of the 5G special network (5G) market, and market competition for related equipment companies is rising.
According to the related industry on the 8th, telecommunications companies are working on test beds for companies preparing for services due to the increase in demand for specialized networks in the areas of cloud and smart factory.
The specialized network is a technology that helps companies and network telecommunications operators that require 5G convergence services, separately from telecommunications networks, can be used to build a dedicated network using 4.72㎓ and 28.9㎓, which are specialized frequencies. In the meantime, in order to use the 5G network for corporate 5G in factories or buildings, the company had to rent a 5G network of three telecommunications companies.
Last year, the government set up an operation plan and a frequency supply plan to revitalize a special network. Naver Cloud, LG CNS, and SK Networks services have applied for frequency allocation to the government. The Ministry of Science and ICT has completed the frequency allocation and period of telecommunication business for Naver Cloud and LG CNS, and is conducting a review of SK Networks.
An official from the Ministry of Science and Technology explained, "Naver Cloud was one through the specialized network of artificial intelligence (AI), robots, and clouds, and LG CNS is used for various elements of smart factories such as AI, unmanned transportation vehicles, and cloud."
Other companies that have seen Naver Cloud and LG CNS developing their business using special networks are also preparing to enter the special network. Samsung SDS, Kakao Enterprise, and KEPCO are preparing for business.
As the market is opened, related companies are also busy. KT and Sejong Telecom operate a test bed for companies to test their specialized networks. In March, KT completed the test network with Samsung Electronics' special network compact core equipment in the Korea Intelligence Information Society Promotion Agency (NIA) and Pangyo 'AI Network Lab'. Demand companies can test the specialized network using the 4.7 GHz band frequency provided by KT.
Sejong Telecom also built the Sejong Seam 5G Smart X Test Bed at the Dongcheon Internet Data Center (IDC). Tests using specialized network frequencies for small and medium -sized equipment companies. In the separate space, you can conduct various service and solution tests prepared by operators.
In the field of telecommunications equipment, six products such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Nokia, and Wooret were issued a special network radio certification of the National Radio Research Institute. The product is indoor and external base stations and wireless modules.
The National Radio Research Institute expects that by the end of the year, the domestic wireless module, which uses the 28 GHz band, and various base stations and terminals in the 4.7 GHz band will receive or apply.
An official from the Ministry of Science and Technology said, "There are a lot of inquiries about specialized networks from companies recently."
Meanwhile, the industry expects the specialized network market to continue to grow. Market research firm Grand Buri Research predicted that the specialized network market will grow by an average annual growth rate of 37.8%from 2021 to 2027, and by 2027, the market size will reach $ 7.1 billion.
