Intel has decided to raise supply prices such as core and Xeon processors, which are supplied to major customers such as PC manufacturers from the fourth quarter. As a result, desktop PCs and laptops, which will be released from the fourth quarter of this year, are inevitable.
Intel has already announced in the first quarter of April that it will raise the price of some products because of inflation pressure.
According to Reuters and Nikkei on the 14th (US time), Intel informed major customers that it would raise major products such as core and Xeon processors.
Nikkei reported that depending on the product, it can be a single digit, but some products will increase the price of 10% and up to 20%. Specific impressions are still undecided.
■ Major manufacturers The shipment remains the same until the fourth quarter
Price fluctuations, such as desktop PCs and laptops released so far, are unlikely to change until the fourth quarter. An official from the domestic mid-sized PC manufacturer said, We are considering price adjustment while maintaining the price of the product released until the current time.
The global PC manufacturer who asked for anonymity also said, I don't know if all the parts prices that make up the PCs rise.
However, the price of finished products such as desktop PCs and laptops, which will be released in the future, is expected to rise in some parts by reflecting the supply price.
The won-dollar exchange rate, which maintains KRW 1,300 from the end of June, is also a problem. An official of the domestic PC manufacturer mentioned earlier said, Currently, core components such as processors are paying for the US dollar, not the won.
■ Effect on assembly PCs that live in all parts
Intel prices are expected to have a greater impact on the assembly PC sector from the fourth quarter. Unlike manufacturers, which have room for negotiations due to mass purchase of major parts, assembled PCs have to buy all parts individually, so the price increase is the most affected.
However, a company official said, There is no room for buying PCs due to inflation and raising interest rates. Intel prices may not have much impact than expected.
Currently, assembly PC makers, which are concentrated in Yongsan Electronics Shopping Center, are already recognized as a market downturn. One large company reduced the size of the store and reduced the workforce. Small companies are in limitations, such as paying mall rents, administrative expenses, and labor costs.
■ TSMC is also raising production costs... AMD also joins
As Intel raises the supply price, AMD, the second-largest company, is likely to adjust the price. Taiwan's TSMC, which is in charge of consignment of AMD and other major semiconductor companies, plans to raise the production price by 20% in the third quarter following August 2020.
An official of Intel Korea said, In the current situation, the increase in supply chain costs that affect the price increase will continue for a while.
However, the official replied, We do not disclose specific information about the price increase products, the official said.
